The New York Giants are hoping to change the culture of the organization this season. After missing the postseason once again, they have hired coach John Harbaugh and are completely revamping the roster. One of the key parts of adding talent to the roster is through rookies, whether drafting them or signing as undrafted free agents. However, one rookie has suffered a season-ending injury before playing their first snap with the team. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what this means going forward.

The New York Giants have been looking to add some talent to the roster through undrafted free agents. We have seen teams sign some to their 90-man roster in hopes of making the 53-man rosters when the regular season begins. However, undrafted free agent cornerback Thaddeus Dixon suffered a torn Achilles tendon on Wednesday, officially ending his season before playing a single down in the NFL, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Dixon was one of three defensive players who were UDFAs on this New York Giants defense, joining nose tackle Anquin Barnes Jr and defensive tackle Ben Barten. Dixon played for the North Carolina Tar Heels last season, transferring from the Washington Huskies. In 2025, he finished with 20 total tackles (14 solo, six assisted) with six pass deflections across seven games.
Injuries are one of the reasons that Dixon fell to being undrafted, as he dealt with a hamstring injury. The Giants looked to significantly shake up the cornerback depth on their roster as they drafted Colton Hood in the second round while signing free agent Greg Newsome. With Dixon heading to injured reserve for his rookie season, it will be intriguing to see how he recovers and looks when he is back to 100% and able to get on the field.
