FC Barcelona suffered a defeat at the hands of Alaves as they returned to La Liga action after having been crowned the champions of Spain last Sunday. The Blaugranes were defeated 1-0 while playing away from home to a side that is battling relegation at the end of this league campaign.
While this defeat is not going to impact their standing on the La Liga table, [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20260514/1004183034/primer-partido-barca-gol-liga-adios-par-records.html) notes how this loss took away the chance from the team to make several new records.
For instance, before this loss, Barcelona were on an 11-game winning streak in La Liga and had also scored in 55 consecutive league games going back into the last season. However, both these runs came to an end at Mendizorroza, with the club records still standing at 16 consecutive wins and 64 consecutive league matches scoring.
The Blaugranes also failed to score in La Liga for the first time this season after having found the back of the net in each of their previous 35 matchdays in the competition.
Meanwhile, the loss of three points in this game also means Barcelona can no longer reach the 100-point mark in La Liga this season, [something Hansi Flick himself had admitted was one of the team’s objectives for the final stretch of the campaign](https://semprebarca.com/hansi-flick-talks-lewandowski-rashford-yamal-balde-kounde-deco-kochen-ahead-of-alaves-vs-barcelona/).
The Catalans are also now in danger of missing out on another milestone. Barcelona have scored 91 goals in La Liga this season, and with only two games left to play against Real Betis and Valencia, they would need nine more goals to hit the 100-goal mark.
Interestingly, this was only the fourth game across all competitions in which Barcelona failed to score despite already having played 55 matches this season. The previous three came against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Champions League, Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final, and again against Atletico in the Champions League quarter finals.
Another surprising aspect of this result is that Alaves had conceded in each of their previous 20 league games before hosting Barcelona.
Still, hopefully, Barcelona will be able to bounce back and win their remaining two games of the season, even if they do not have a lot left to play for after already securing the league title.
