Chelsea have made Xabi Alonso the leading candidate to become the next permanent manager of the club, and the players have now given their verdict on the potential decision.
The Chelsea squad have seen plenty of change at the helm throughout the 2025/26 season, which started with Enzo Maresca in charge following the victorious Club World Cup campaign.

The squad have responded well to Calum McFarlane being in charge on a temporary basis, and their thoughts will have to be taken into account when it comes to choosing the next boss at the end of the season.
With Xabi Alonso being widely reported to be the favourite for the job, news seems to have filtered to the dressing room that there is a chance they are coached by the Spaniard next season.

According to The Times, the Chelsea squad are on board with the potential appointment, believing he would be the man to get them back on track.
Those players have their chance to make a statement to whoever the new manager is with this weekend’s FA Cup final, where they face Manchester City at Wembley.
A nightmare season both on and off the pitch has left many believing the job at Stamford Bridge is undesirable, and a reminder of their recent history winning trophies would be more than welcome.

With many seeing the former Real Madrid boss as the dream hiring, there will be optimism based on how talks have gone so far.
Chelsea have been left confident following discussions with Alonso that he would be open to the prospect of taking over in West London.
The club were left impressed by Alonso during early talks, seemingly moving him ahead of the rest of the pack as favourite for the role.
This has seen interest in the likes of Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva cool in recent days, however both are still set to be free agents in the summer.
