Chris Sutton and Paul Merson agree on outcome of 'massive' Sunderland clash vs Everton

Sunderland face Everton in the Premier League this weekend.

The Black Cats currently 12th in the top flight table, two spots and one point beneath their hosts on Merseyside, and will be hoping to keep their faint hopes of European qualification alive with a vital win.

For their part, Everton are on a winless run of five matches, but have drawn each of their last two outings. Looking ahead to this weekend, however, both Sutton and Merson are of the opinion that they will take all three points against Regis Le Bris’ visitors.

What has Chris Sutton said ahead of Everton vs Sunderland?

Speaking to BBC Sport, Sutton forecast a 1-0 Everton win, stating: “These sides are both in midtable, and they have both gone a few weeks without winning now. Performance-wise, they have not been terrible, but their results have tailed off a bit. Everton have shipped a few goals recently, though and I can see David Moyes wanting them to get back to keeping a clean sheet.”

What has Paul Merson said ahead of Everton vs Sunderland?

Meanwhile, in his weekly column for Sportskeeda, Merson opted for a 2-0 Toffees victory. He said: “Sunderland were good the other day against Manchester United. I thought they were the better team in that game. A win here would boost Sunderland's chances of finishing above Newcastle this season. That will be massive for their fans.

“But I just can't see them beating Everton. I know Everton have fizzled out in recent weeks. They have no win in five games. I'm still going to back them because they are playing their final home game of the season.”
