Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair admits that if the Blues came calling, it would be tough for Coventry City boss Frank Lampard to say no after being linked with a third managerial stint at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard is a Chelsea legend and is held in such high regard at the club from his time as a player, receiving plenty of plaudits for his work in the Stamford Bridge dugout in 2019.

He did a brilliant job working under a transfer embargo, giving several stars, such as Mason Mount and Reece James, their Premier League debuts.

Lampard's stock is through the roof after guiding Coventry City back to the Premier League, winning the Championship title in style and he's being linked with several vacant positions in the top flight.

While Sinclair believes it would be difficult to say no to Chelsea, he has warned the Sky Blues boss that a return to the capital could prove problematic because of previous experience at the club during his time as interim head coach in 2023.

Speaking to CoventryLive ahead of his appearance at Masters Football later this month, Sinclair said: "I think it would be difficult because of the last experience Frank Lampard had.

"The first experience was unbelievable, breeding all the young players like Mason Mount and Reece James. That was a high success.

"The second time around was a difficult scenario. What would the third time look like? I think it looks more like the second time around than the first.

"I'd be surprised if Frank took the job, but when Chelsea come calling, it's a difficult one to turn down. The job he's done at Coventry is unbelievable, but that is not the remit for Chelsea.

"There's no comparison between getting Coventry to the Premier League and getting Chelsea to challenge for European honors and the title. I like the Cesc Fabregas one (for Chelsea); he comes in with new ideas and the respect is there."

Lampard has a year left on his current contract with the Sky Blues and Doug King is expected to offer him a new deal.

Sinclair was speaking to CoventryLive ahead of Masters Football at the Ovo Wembley Arena on May 31st, with tickets available on sale here.
