Everything you need to know about the transfer interest in Anthony Gordon as Everton look set to benefit from a windfall.
Bayern Munich agreement: Anthony Gordon is reportedly closing in on a significant move to Bayern Munich after terms were discussed for a summer transfer. The England international is said to be open to the move, which would see him join international teammate Harry Kane in Germany.
Arsenal: The Gunners are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to move if Bayern Munich fail to meet Newcastle's asking price. Mikel Arteta is reportedly a fan of Gordon's versatility and work rate as he looks to add depth to his attacking line.
Newcastle's stance on valuation: Newcastle are demanding a high transfer fee, reportedly at least £75million, to ensure they maximise their return on the winger. They are holding firm on this price tag, partly to offset the financial impact of a sell-on clause owed to his former club, Everton.
Sell-on clause for Everton: When Everton sold Gordon to Newcastle in January 2023, they included a 15% sell-on clause on any profit made from a future sale. Because Newcastle are pushing for a higher fee, Everton stand to receive a larger windfall, potentially exceeding £5m if the £75m valuation is met.
Newcastle's positioning: The Magpies are determined to conduct business only on their own terms to avoid the perceived mistakes of previous transfer windows. By driving a hard bargain with Bayern, they aim to secure enough funds to effectively replace Gordon while satisfying their own PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) requirements.
Eddie Howe's view: Eddie Howe confirmed that Gordon's recent exclusion from the starting lineup is part of a 'partial view to the future' for the squad. He noted that while the winger has returned from injury, the team has performed well in his absence during a period of transition adding that the club 'always has an eye on the future.'
