Packers' Malik Willis loss will get review at crucial time in NFL schedule

The Green Bay Packers, in the end, didn't have much chance to keep Malik Willis.

He had played too well as a fill-in for Jordan Love, and so the Packers' backup signed with the Miami Dolphins this offseason to be their starting QB.

These sides will get a look at one another late in the regular season, at a crucial time.

As part of the NFL's schedule release on Thursday night, the football world learned that the Packers and Dolphins will play one another in Week 15.

At that point in the year, both teams will be hoping to still be in playoff contention. That's more realistic for Green Bay, but if Willis turns out to be the right move for Miami, they could be in the hunt, too.

Willis doesn't have a ton of proven skill talent around him with the Dolphins, although they did just sign RB De'Von Achane to a record-setting extension.

For the Packers, Love's health will be even more crucial than it was the last two seasons, because there's no more Willis behind him.

Green Bay has a bunch of options to become QB2, but they definitely need to keep Love intact as best they can.

The irony here would be if Love, via injury, was out by this point in the campaign. If it was Willis facing off with a new Packers backup, the Dolphins would likely hold the edge in that matchup.

There will likely already be an obvious takeaway one way or the other by Week 15, whether Willis has played well or played poorly.

But when Willis and head coach Jeff Hafley get to face their former team, it'll be a fun one to watch.
