The Minnesota Vikings are trying to find their next general manager, which has proven to be a more arduous task than originally designed when they told reporters that this would be a quick process.
Now, two handfuls of candidates and a search firm later, the Wilf family — along with Kevin O’Connell and Andrew Miller — are interviewing candidates virtually this week, as they attempt to whittle their list down for in-person meetings that could start just in a matter of days.
Chad Alexander drops out of GM race
We don’t know who they have, and have not, talked to yet. But late Friday morning we did learn of one targeted candidate the MN Vikings will not be speaking with, and that’s LA Chargers assistant GM, Chad Alexander.
According to Albert Breer (SI), Alexander has “respectfully declined the Vikings’ interview request” and is no longer in the running to be Minnesota’s next general manager.
Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander respectfully declined the Vikings’ GM interview request, and withdrew his name from the search, per sources. Alexander’s comfortable in LA, and wanted to see the building of the 2026 team through.

Chad Alexander has been the Chargers’ assistant GM since 2024. Before that, he was the director of player personnel for the New York Jets from 2019-2023.
Prior to his time in the Big Apple, the veteran NFL executive served in multiple different roles with the Baltimore Ravens, where he climbed the organizational ladder from personnel assistant to assistant director of player personnel from 1999-2018.
Why would Alexander decline interview request?
We don’t have any further information on why Alexander chose not to pursue the Minnesota Vikings’ GM job yet, but nevertheless, Minnesota’s reported list of candidates is now down to 9 (including Rob Brzezinski).
GM Candidate Current Team Current Role
Ray Agnew Lions Assistant GM
Chad Alexander Chargers Assistant GM
Reed Burckhardt Broncos Assistant GM
RJ Gillen 49ers Assistant GM
Terrance Gray Bills Assistant GM
John McKay Rams Assistant GM
Kyle Smith Dolphins Assistant GM
Nolan Teasely Seahawks Assistant GM
Dave Ziegler Titans Assistant GM
Rob Brzezinski Vikings Assistant GM
I do wonder how many of Minnesota’s GM candidates will ultimately have interest in taking a job where they may not have final say in roster decisions.
Whoever signs up to be the MN Vikings’ next general manager will, at the very least, have to work so closely with KOC, Brian Flores and possibly others in the organization… that some candidates could be turned off.

We’ll probably find out eventually. And when we do, it won’t surprise me in the slightest if Alexander indeed turned a cold shoulder because he wasn’t interested in that type of decision-making hierarchy.
If true, we could see other candidates do the same.
