Over the last two seasons, Jesse Minter was the defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers. He left Los Angeles this offseason to become the new head coach for the Baltimore Ravens. Both of these teams will have high expectations next season.

The Chargers finished with an 11-6 record last season and made the playoffs once again under head coach Jim Harbaugh. If Los Angeles wants to get to the next level, they have to win the AFC West division and quarterback Justin Herbert needs to be better in the playoffs here.

Daniel Popper of the Athletic wrote about his thoughts about the Chargers upcoming 2026 NFL schedule. They will begin the season at home against the Arizona Cardinals. Another key game for them will be on the road in Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens. This will be the first time that Minter will be facing his former team. Popper said,
“It will be mentors vs. proteges as the Chargers head to Baltimore for a Week 10 primetime game against the Ravens. Jesse Minter left the Chargers this offseason to take the Ravens head-coaching job. Minter spent the past two seasons as the Chargers defensive coordinator. Before that, he spent two seasons as Jim Harbaugh’s defensive coordinator at Michigan. Minter spoke often about his appreciation and respect for Jim Harbaugh. Now the two will face off in a potentially pivotal November game.
Minter is also a mentor to O’Leary. Minter was a coach at Indiana State when O’Leary was a player there. Minter gave O’Leary his first coaching gig at Georgia State. Minter also gave O’Leary his first NFL coaching job with the Chargers in 2024. O’Leary will be running Minter’s scheme with the Chargers this season. Lots of fascinating storylines in this one — and we haven’t even mentioned Jim Harbaugh possibly seeking revenge for his brother John, who the Ravens fired this offseason after nearly two decades.
An honorable mention to Week 12 against the New England Patriots in primetime. The Chargers lost to New England in the first round of the playoffs last season.”
It will be interesting to see how Minter would scheme up his defense against Herbert. These games are always interesting and will see how the Chargers would prepare to face quarterback Lamar Jackson. Los Angeles has a tough schedule this season, but they have a couple of layups to start the 2026 NFL season also.
