After Liam Rosenior’s sacking at Chelsea last month, it piled the pressure on BlueCo to deliver once again after multiple failed managerial appointments.
A plethora of top-level managers have been linked with the role at Stamford Bridge, but it appears as though Xabi Alonso is the man who has been chosen to take the club forward.
The Spaniard has been the leading candidate in recent weeks after stating he would be open to managing in the Premier League after being sacked by Real Madrid.

Talks have been held between the Blues and the 44-year-old in recent days, with a shift of responsibility and recruitment needed if he is to be a success in the role.
Early plans have been put in place in West London to accommodate his arrival, with numerous transfer targets already being drawn up by staff behind the scenes.

Chelsea could have £50m bid accepted for European star
As is usually the case during the transfer window, Chelsea have recently been linked with a whole host of talent to improve the ranks ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke is just one player on their radar, with the Dutchman a consistent performer for the Seagulls in the Premier League.
Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke
The 25-year-old could cost a pretty penny this summer, as Fabian Hurzeler’s side are demanding a fee in the region of £60m to offload the defensive star this summer.
Van Hecke isn’t the only player in the Blues’ sights ahead of the upcoming window, with Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga also being considered.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are just one of a handful of English sides keen on a deal to land the French international when the window opens in early June.
The report also confirms that Manchester United and Liverpool are just two other English clubs keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old’s progress at present.
The player himself wants to move during the upcoming window after missing out on a World Cup spot, with Madrid likely to accept a fee of £50m, if they are to sanction a sale.
Why Camavinga would be the next N’Golo Kante for Chelsea
Top-level midfielders have often made themselves at home Chelsea over the years, with French star N’Golo Kante just one player who falls into that category.

He arrived for a fee in the region of £30m from Leicester City back in the summer of 2016, subsequently making 269 appearances for the Blues over a seven-year period.
The deep-lying midfielder won four major honours during his time at the Bridge, including the iconic Champions League triumph over Manchester City in 2020/21.

His relentless pressing and ball-winning ability made him a fan favourite in West London, with none of the recent additions able to emulate his skillset at the heart of the side.
However, that could all be about to change this summer, especially if Chelsea are able to agree a deal with Real Madrid for Camavinga in the months ahead.
Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga
The Frenchman would emulate his compatriot in moving to the Bridge looking to take his career to the next level and reach his full potential after glimpses of his quality.
His time at the Bernabeu has certainly been topsy-turvy, subsequently winning six major trophies, but ultimately struggling to nail down a regular starting role.
The 23-year-old has only made 16 starts in LaLiga this term, but he’s still managed to impress with his ability to regain possession - just as Kante did during his time with the Blues.
Camavinga has made a staggering 3.8 tackles per 90 in Spain’s top-flight this term, with such a tally ranking him within the top 3% of midfielders in Europe.
Such a quality is similar to that of his compatriot, who undoubtedly cemented his legacy as one of the club’s best ball-winners, given his displays in West London.
The Madrid star has also made 5.1 ball recoveries per 90 this campaign, along with 6.8 defensive contributions per 90 - reaffirming his excellent ability to break up the opposition’s flow.

In possession, Camavinga has also demonstrated his ability to get out of tight areas, subsequently completing 65% of the dribbles he’s attempted throughout 2025/26.
His similarity to Kante is there for all to see, with Chelsea potentially making an excellent addition if they can secure the services of the Frenchman for £50m.
Eduardo Camavinga
At just 23, Camavinga has bags of time to fulfil his potential in the Premier League and reach the levels many anticipated he would during his professional career.
Should he emulate the levels produced by Kante in West London, the £50m transfer fee would be a bargain and one that could allow the club to finally fight for title glory under Alonso.
