Before the full NFL regular season schedule was announced on Thursday night, it was reported that the New England Patriots would be traveling to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 12 on "Sunday Night Football."
National NFL writer Mike Jones of The Athletic picked the Chargers-Patriots matchup as the league's best "Sunday Night Football" contest on the schedule.
Jones argued that the late-November meeting is a standout on the NFL primetime docket not only because it's a playoff rematch, but because of Los Angeles' jabs at New England head coach Mike Vrabel during its schedule release video.
"This is a 'Sunday Night Football' rematch between AFC wild-card opponents. On Jan. 11, the Patriots sent the Chargers packing with a 16-3 victory," Jones wrote. "Now they’ll face again, and the Chargers just may have added some extra fuel to New England’s fire with a few subtle shots at Mike Vrabel during L.A.’s schedule-release video."
With the NFL schedule release garnering plenty of headlines and training camp on the horizon, the Vrabel-Dianna Russini affair scandal has taken somewhat of a backseat in recent days.
It wouldn't be surprising if the controversy remains a topic of conversation heading into the new season though.
