One of the keeper’s better performances. He denied Erling Haaland when the striker was in on goal and later kept out Rayan Cherki’s thumping strike.

A solid display. Defended well against the threat of Jeremy Doku and was composed on the ball.

Also played well at the back and his return has been a welcome boost for Chelsea. His passing was very good and he gave as good as he got against Haaland.

Adapted well to a left-sided role he doesn’t look a natural fit for, Strong in challenges and was also willing to venture forward.
Malo Gusto: 7

Deployed as a wing-back, Gusto was decent at both ends of the pitch and got through lots of work off the ball. Also served up a couple of threatening crosses.

Played in midfield and was not at his best. Gave the ball away cheaply late in the first half and was guilty of a couple of other lapses before being taken off in the second.
Moises Caicedo: 7

An important figure for Chelsea in midfield, where his combative style and awareness of danger helped them stifle City for long periods of the game.
Marc Cucurella: 6

Can count himself unlucky, having worked tirelessly on the left going forward and also containing Semenyo before the City man got the all-important goal.
Enzo Fernandez: 6

Took up some clever positions and made it hard for City to play the ball out from the back. Missed a chance to level though when his flick ended up on the top of the net.
Cole Palmer: 5

Disappointing against his former club. Made very little impact and seemed a yard off the pace.
Joao Pedro: 6

His work-rate troubled City’s backline and helped Chelsea defend from the front. Wasn’t a goal threat, though, and slipped when shooting after being given a sight of goal by Fernandez’s first-half pass.
Pedro Neto: 6

Brought on after the goal, Neto was lively and had an effort on goal saved as Chelsea tried in vain to find an equaliser.
