Mike Vrabel’s scandal with Dianna Russini this off-season unexpectedly turned into the biggest storyline of the 2026 off-season. The years long affair forced Russini to quit her job at The Athletic and made Vrabel one of the most controversial head coaches in the league.
However, his time at the head coach in New England could be coming to an end.

Mike Vrabel’s Chances Of Being The Patriots Head Coach Take Huge Hit

7 minutes ago, at a popular prediction site that doesn’t pay me to mention their name so I won’t, the odds for Mike Vrabel being out as HC of the Pats jumped from 23% to 28%, then to 30% 5 minutes later.

Honestly, I do not know how he survived this so far. Just a bad optic for the Patriots – but then again over the years the Patriots organization has had a lot of bad optics and they just keep moving on.
I don’t gamble, probably just about the only stupid vice I don’t participate in, but anyways I would seriously bet money that he’s out by week 1. If this was the Vikings coach I’d say get this guy out of here so we don’t have to deal with the distraction, like it’s hard enough even in perfect times.

How Did We Get To This Point?
After Page Six published images of them holding hands and hugging in an Arizona hotel in April 2026, the Patriots coach and Russini were subjected to intense scrutiny.
As a result of those photos, floodgates opened. A few weeks later, additional images emerged, dating as far back as March 2020. Vrabel and Russini’s initial photos were shrouded in mystery, but recent images reveal that their relationship was more intimate than was initially indicated.
In an April 23 article published by Page Six, photos were published of Vrabel and Russini spending time together at a dimly lit bar in New York City. The photographs were taken on March 11, 2020, six years before it became public that the Patriots coach and longtime NFL insider were romantically involved.
In a photo shared in May 2026, Russini appears to be holding Vrabel’s arm before the Bengals and Rams competed in the Super Bowl in Los Angeles.
After the Titans’ 2023 season ended, Vrabel was fired as head coach on January 9, 2024. During Vrabel’s final season as Tennessee’s head coach, the team went 6-11. In addition to leading the Titans to three consecutive postseason appearances, he finished his career with a 54-45 regular season record (.545).
After being fired by the Titans, Vrabel was spotted gambling with Russini in Biloxi, Mississippi, according to TMZ.
While that is not the whole story, it is a very large portion of how we got here. It will be interesting to see who is leading the Patriots out of the tunnel come week one of the season.
