NFL fans are used to their favorite players putting on the jersey every Sunday and performing at a high level. The path these players have taken to get to the professional level has often times turned them into someone who is used to the demanding lifestyle.
However, mental health still proves to be one of the most important aspects of anyone’s life, no matter if they’re a professional ballplayer or a fan.
That was more true than ever for one former starting quarterback.

Former Starting NFL Quarterback Nearly Takes His Own Life
It was brought up again on Twitter/X that Johnny Manziel was once dealing with extreme mental health struggles:
Johnny Manziel has stated that after being cut by the ClevelandBrowns in 2016, he refused rehab and went on what he described as a “$5 million bender,” and then planned to commit s**cide, but the gun malfunctioned, which he took as a sign that he needed to change.
In Netflix’s “Untold: Johnny Football” Manziel stated in the documentary that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, refused to enter rehab, and began self-sabotaging:
“I had planned to do everything I wanted to do at that point in my life, spend as much money as I possibly could and then my plan was to take my life,” Manziel said in the documentary, according to multiple reports. “I wanted to get as bad as humanly possible to where it made sense, and it made it seem like an excuse and an out for me.”
“Still to this day, don’t know what happened. But the gun just clicked on me,” he said in the documentary, according to multiple reports.

After an astounding career with Texas A&M, Manziel was drafted 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Brows. Ultimately, he would only last two seasons, going 2-6 in his eight total starts. However, his college career left a legacy that will be hard to ever duplicate. Here is a look at his college stats:
26 games played
595 completions
863 attempts
68.9 completion percentage
7,820 passing yards
63 passing touchdowns
22 interceptions
2,169 rushing yards
30 rushing touchdowns
He did all of that in just two seasons.
