It was here that he had his most notable achievements, ending Munich’s title winning streak with an undefeated Bundesliga campaign that saw Leverkusen lift the trophy.

He made the big step up to Real Madrid, one of the biggest hot seats in all of football. He wasn’t in charge for long as the team ousted him but it has come back to bite them. Alonso had Los Blancos on top of La Liga but without him they have fallen from their perch and are set to end the season without a single trophy. There is no guarantee but had they stuck with the coach, there is a chance that they may have kept their lead atop the table.
