Pelissero reported Friday on the Rich Eisen Show that Rodgers’ contract would begin with a “2 in front of it.” That appears to be accurate.
It’s a similar structure to Rodgers’ contract a year ago. In 2025, he signed a one-year deal with a base value of $13.65 million which included $10 million guaranteed. Incentives pushed the deal to a maximum of $19.5 million. Ultimately, he earned just $500,000 in incentives for the Steelers making the playoffs.
The Monday after the 2026 NFL Draft, the Steelers placed the rarely used unrestricted free agent tender on Rodgers. That gave him a 110% raise from his 2025 base salary to roughly $15 million. However, the two sides opted to negotiate a different deal separate from the tender, which is permissible by NFL rules.
For veteran quarterbacks, Rodgers’ contract remains reasonable and one of the cheapest in the league of someone in his position. A clear-cut starter for the Steelers. Mason Rudolph, Drew Allar, and Will Howard will compete for the two spots behind him on the depth chart.
Though his contract is relatively modest, Rodgers continues to add to the near-record amount of money he’s made over his career. For the moment, he’s made more money than any other quarterback, and by extension any other player, in NFL history. That could change if Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford receives a new contract this summer.
Rodgers is set to suit up for his 22nd NFL season. He’s just the eighth player in history to do so and second of those who weren’t specialists for all or part of their career.
Among quarterbacks, only Tom Brady’s 23 seasons have him beat. It seems doubtful Rodgers will match that record in 2027, but most didn’t expect him to play in 2026. Rodgers’ future will be based off his health, performance, and personal feelings, meaning another offseason saga next year can’t be ruled out.
