Antoine Semenyo shared the details behind his journey with Manchester City to another trophy.
The winger has enjoyed a memorable 2025/26 season. He hit double-digits in the Premier League with Bournemouth, earning himself a £62.5 million transfer to the Etihad Stadium in the winter window. He was acquired along with Marc Guehi to give top tier experience and additional quality to strengthen a side in transition after their first trophyless season since 2017. It is a ploy that has been extremely successful as City have claimed two cup trophies and remain in the race for the league title.
‘I had to improvise’
Semenyo has been an integral figure for the team. Capable of playing on both flanks, his pace, power and purpose can often make up for an element of rawness that remains in his game. Most of all, he plays with no fear, rising to the occasion for the group at key moments in their domestic campaign.
He netted on his debut in the FA Cup, scored the first goal of the Carabao Cup first leg semi-final against Newcastle United and tormented Piero Hincapie against **Arsenal**in the Carabao Cup final.
An inventive backheel to set apart the sides at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup final tops off that list, and the attacker believes that he has been empowered by his manager to be a difference maker.
"Everything happened so fast to be honest. It came straight to me and I had to improvise myself as quickly as I can. It has happened a couple of times in training - it happened perfectly today.
"It is a good finish, I can't lie. As a kid I have always wanted to be playing for the top teams - it took a long time to get there, but I am grateful.
*"The first thing he [**Pep Guardiola*] said to me when I came was 'don't change your game'. He knows we control the game a lot, he still wants me to be me, still create a bit of chaos.
"I have never competed for trophies like this before, so everything is new to me. Hopefully, we can finish the job off.”
