Man City reigned supreme at Wembley again with FA Cup final success over Chelsea, who ended the day a step closer to a new boss in Xabi Alonso.
Celtic secured the William Hill Premiership title in dramatic fashion against Hearts, but it is a story which may potentially rumble on due to the unsavoury scenes before the full-time whistle.
Elsewhere, Mohamed Salah boldly laid out what Arne Slot must do next season to bring back the good times at Liverpool ahead of the latest round of Premier League fixtures on Sunday.
Guardiola says cup winners have no time for beer
Pep Guardiola said there was no time to celebrate – not even with one beer – after Manchester City’s FA Cup final victory on Saturday.

City completed a cup double after a superb late goal from Antoine Semenyo gave them a 1-0 win over Chelsea in an underwhelming contest at Wembley, but with Tuesday’s trip to Bournemouth on the horizon, Guardiola immediately shifted focus to the title race.
“Home – not even one beer,” Guardiola insisted. “Next Monday, after Aston Villa, we’re going to celebrate with the women’s team with a parade in Manchester, but no, we do not have time now.
“Chelsea had seven days to prepare for the final, we had three days and yesterday was a nightmare.
“We spent literally six hours getting from Manchester to here. The trains are a little bit of a problem in this country. Six hours!”
Chelsea close in on Alonso after FA Cup pain
It was not all bad for FA Cup runners-up Chelsea after it emerged soon after their defeat by City that they were close to appointing former Real Madrid boss Alonso as their new manager.
Alonso has rapidly gone to the front of the queue for the Stamford Bridge outfit ahead of Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva.
The Press Association understands an agreement in principle is now in place for Alonso to take over this summer. Chelsea’s owners BlueCo had intended to take their time over their next head coach, but someone of the calibre of Alonso being available accelerated the process.

Alonso will become the fifth permanent appointment of the BlueCo ownership era after Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, but interim boss Calum McFarlane will lead Chelsea for the final two matches of this season.
Asked about the Alonso links, McFarlane said: “I don’t have anything to report on that. My job is to train the team and coach the team in the next two games.”
Hearts want ‘strongest action’ taken after unsavoury Celtic Park scenes
Hearts have condemned the “shameful scenes” at Celtic Park which “embarrassed Scottish football” as their Premiership dream ended in acrimonious fashion.
Immediately after Callum Osmand made it 3-1 to Celtic deep into stoppage time of the title decider, home fans entered the pitch to celebrate – even though the full-time whistle had not been heard.
Several confronted the crestfallen Hearts players, who were ushered down the tunnel by club officials concerned for their safety, and the match – approaching the end of the minimum eight minutes of stoppage time – did not restart.

“Hearts utterly condemn the shameful scenes at Celtic Park this afternoon which have, once again, embarrassed Scottish football,” the statement read.
“Reports of serious physical and verbal abuse towards our players and staff, both on the pitch and elsewhere, are deeply disturbing. We are investigating this fully and are in dialogue with Police Scotland.
“We expect the strongest action possible to be taken by the footballing authorities in the interests of protecting the safety of players and supporters, and the integrity of our game.”
Salah wants ‘heavy metal football’ back at Liverpool
Salah appeared to aim a thinly veiled dig at under-fire Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Saturday when he urged the club to rediscover their identity.
A 4-2 loss at Aston Villa on Friday further increased the pressure on Slot, who looked set to stay for a third season at Anfield despite a poor 2024-25 campaign.
Ahead of Salah’s final appearance next weekend, he said on X: “I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions.
I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.

“It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.
“I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.”
What’s on today?
Six Premier League fixtures will occur with 18th-placed West Ham set to visit Newcastle in a critical match in their survival battle.
Elsewhere, there will be more Wembley action with Southend and Wealdstone set to contest the FA Trophy final and Stoneham against Cockfosters in the final of the FA Vase.
