Having settled on Xabi Alonso and with the FA Cup final now out of the way, Chelsea can start to focus on the transfer market.
They still have two games left in the Premier League, but Champions League qualification is gone, leaving very little to play for.
Chelsea fans would love to see their team contribute to Tottenham Hotspur being relegated, their upcoming opponents. But the club’s focus is going to start to turn away from the pitch and towards the transfer market.

Enzo Maresca and the Chelsea board did not always see eye to eye when it came to transfers. It is one reason why Maresca is thought to have left.
Alonso and the decision-makers at Stamford Bridge could have a much better relationship, though.
Sources have told The Athletic that Alonso and Chelsea are aligned on what the squad requires in the upcoming transfer window.
As well as bringing in some fresh faces, Alonso will want to keep hold of the team’s best players. Barcelona are interested in Joao Pedro, but Alonso will be keen to retain his services.
Pedro has been Chelsea’s best player this season, scoring 20 goals in 49 appearances.

Positions Alonso could target this summer
There are a few key players Alonso is likely to be thinking about strengthening.
The inconsistency of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen this season means Chelsea could sign a new goalkeeper, though they have the option of not loaning out Mike Penders again and giving him an opportunity in the first team.
Alonso may also want a left winger after Alejandro Garnacho’s struggles and Jamie Gittens’ injuries.
A central defender to partner Levi Colwill could also be on the agenda. While his fitness has improved, some of Wesley Fofana’s performances have been concerning.
The Frenchman has looked better in Chelsea’s last few games, but it would be a surprise if Alonso said no to a new centre-back.
