Everton finish their [home campaign against Sunderland](https://readeverton.com/everton-vs-sunderland-toffees-hope-to-build-on-encouraging-stat/) today.

It has been a mixed season for the Toffees, with a collection of memorable wins, paired with some true missed opportunities.

But the Blues remain in the hunt for European qualification, yet must go unbeaten in their final two matches to even think about qualifying.

The run in of the season has seen strikers Beto and Thierno Barry find some form, and the former could achieve an Everton first that has not been hit since the 2021-22 campaign.

[Beto](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/top-scorers) has bagged nine league goals for David Moyes’ side this season, and a goal against Sunderland would take him into double figures.

If the forward manages to find the back of the net today, he would become the first Everton player to reach double figures in Premier League goals since Richarlison in the 2021-22 season, when the Brazilian scored 10 times.

The Guinea-Bissau international is not the only prominent goalscorer at Hill Dickinson Stadium, as Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could also join him in reaching double figures before the season is up.

Everton’s last home league encounter against Sunderland saw them bag two goals against a young Jordan Pickford, and with Moyes in charge of the Wearside outfit.

Supporters will hope for a repeat performance from their main goalscorers in the hope of keeping their European bid alive.

Beto experienced his first purple patch at Everton in Moyes’ early days back on Merseyside.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin being ruled out injured, the ex-Udinese man stepped up to the plate and guided the Blues away from the threat of relegation with some important goals.

Yet at the start of the current campaign, he found competition for his starting position from Thierno Barry.

The subsequent months saw inconsistent playing time, and when the young Frenchman found form midway through the season, Beto came close to a move away from Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, through all of this, he remained focused on his work at Everton, and eventually managed to break into the starting XI with goals against Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United.

The attitude he has shown has been commendable.

Instead of throwing his toys out of the pram, the 28-year-old bided his time and was eventually rewarded.

Beto may not be the long-term answer to Everton’s mission in replacing Romelu Lukaku, but he has been their best striker since they lost the Belgian in 2017.
