When the Xabi Alonso rumours first broke out, most fans had viewed it as a dream target that was most probably out of reach. After all, why would the Spaniard want the Chelsea job at this time? According to a report from Kieran Gill on the Daily Mail, Alonso has been assured that he will have a say on any and all transfers, in and out.
Secondly, Chelsea want to sign up to three ready-made players while parting with those who they consider surplus to requirements. Alonso is set to be at the heart of it all. The Spanish manager has been told that he will be an equal partner to the sporting directorship team and ownership.
Chelsea are also prepared to show greater flexibility towards the ages of the players they bring in. So far, BlueCo had been completely focused on signing youngsters.

A lot of this is what Chelsea fans have been wanting to see happen. Of course, it will be very interesting to see how successfully all this can be pulled off.
Let’s not forget, the club are not in a brilliant position financially. A lot of the resources have already been wasted. And without Champions League football next season, not enough might be available to oversee a revamp.
That being said, it has been maintained that Alonso believes that the squad is talented already and could be capable of challenging with targeted strengthening in a few positions.
Alonso’s presence could also help convince people to join. Now, it remains to be seen what level of players would be willing to come to Chelsea even without Champions League football on offer.
