Chelsea want to sign Ajax winger with 31 G/A this season

BlueCo have done the first thing that they needed to do, which was to get the Xabi Alonso appointment over the line. There were real worries that Liverpool could choose to swoop in if they missed out on Champions League football. Now, their situation is no longer a headache for Chelsea fans and they can focus on what’s ahead.

For the first time in the BlueCo era, Chelsea have appointed a manager who was wanted by the majority of the fanbase. That is a sign of welcome change. Hopefully, there is more to come.

Now, the club have to provide Alonso with the right squad to succeed at Chelsea. It has been claimed that they will look to sign two or three ‘ready-made’ players this summer. That word keeps getting repeated. One can only wonder how BlueCo define it.

According to Simon Phillips (via ChelsHub), Chelsea are now considering a move for Belgian winger Mika Godts as Alonso begins shaping the squad in his image.

Chelsea linked with move for Ajax winger

Godts currently plays for Ajax. He is also a full Belgian international, having made a couple of appearances for his national team.

He has made more than 100 appearances for Ajax. And he has played a decent bit of Champions League football as well.

It is worth mentioning though that he is still just 20 years of age. So, would you define him as a ‘ready-made’ player, even though he has a bit of experience under his belt?

Godts has enjoyed a phenomenal season for Ajax

Godts has been superb this season. There are no two ways about it. He has scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists across all competitions. Those are tremendous numbers for a winger.

It is also worth mentioning that these numbers have come while playing for an underpar Ajax side. This is not a team that is dominating Dutch football like they used to. They are in fifth right now.

He plays on the left flank. That is one area where Chelsea need to strengthen, especially if Alonso wants to stick with a four-man defence. Alejandro Garnacho has struggled and does not look good enough to be a starter. We have seen very little of Jamie Gittens as he has been injured a lot. But when fit, he has looked like a player who is raw.

Then again, would Godts be the answer? He is probably someone who will need a bit of time to adjust, just like Jorrel Hato did.
