Everton are eyeing a move for an "incredible" player, who is set to leave a rival Premier League club in the summer transfer window.
Toffees eyeing new defender as European push falters
The Toffees look set to miss out on European football, having endured a difficult end to the campaign, failing to pick up a win in their last six Premier League matches, and the most recent defeat is perhaps one of the most disappointing.
On Sunday, David Moyes' side came up short in a 3-1 home defeat against Sunderland, which means they have now fallen to 11th in the table, with just one game remaining.
The Merseysiders' defensive record has also gone downhill in that time, shipping 14 goals in their last six games, which suggests some improvements may be necessary at the back in the summer transfer window.
Manchester City star John Stones has been heavily linked with a return, and there have been suggestions a deal for the centre-back is now close to being agreed, but the Englishman is not the only Premier League player on the shortlist.
Everton plotting move for Lutsharel Geertruida
According to journalist Alan Nixon (via Goodison News), Everton are now plotting a summer move for RB Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida, who is currently on loan at Sunderland, with the Black Cats set to reject the opportunity to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.
The Bundesliga side are set to hold out for over £20m, with Geertruida likely to join another Premier League club, and there is no shortage of interest, as Leeds United were also recently named as potential suitors.
The 25-year-old's greatest asset is said to be his versatility, having featured at right-back, centre-back and in defensive midfield for Sunderland this season.

Scout Antonio Mango is a keen admirer too, saying: "Geertruida is one of the most complete well-rounded young defenders in the world right now with no inconceivable weaknesses, incredible talent."
After falling down the pecking order, the 20-cap Netherlands international has forced his way back into the starting XI recently, and he played the full 90 minutes in his side's victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Having gotten a full season in the Premier League under his belt, Geertruida, who has the same agent as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, could be a solid signing for Everton this summer, and Moyes is looking to strengthen his options at the opposite end of the pitch too.
