Messages of good luck and congratulations have since come pouring in for a player who racked up a trio of La Liga titles across his four years in Catalunya’s capital.

And as alluded to above, adding his name to this list of well wishers on Sunday was on-loan Barca star Marc-André ter Stegen.

In a post on his ‘X’ account, shot-stopper Ter Stegen wrote:

‘Robert (the way I usually say it because it sounds so nicely formal), it was a pleasure having you at FC Barcelona. Your hard work, professionalism, and character are what made you the person and player you are today. Keep doing what you’ve always done best — scoring goals. Wishing you and your family nothing but the very best for this next chapter. Big, big hug!!’
