Future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady sat down with FOX 5 DC and talked about Jayden Daniels and the pressure rookie NFL quarterbacks are under as soon as they get into the NFL. What Brady said about Daniels was not surprising to anyone that has watched him play. During the conversation, Brady raved about the rookie season of Jayden Daniels but also addressed the truth about injuries and the pressure the quarterback position holds.

When asked what advice Brady would give young quarterbacks on how to handle setbacks upon entering the league, he had the following to say about Daniels and how to handle those pressures.
“He’s an incredible young player who’s in his career as well as any. He had an incredible rookie season last year’s ebbs and flows. You’re going to have great years. You’re going to have years that are a bit of a struggle. And it’s really how you overcome those struggles and how much you dig into being a little bit better every single year.”
Brady Knows Adversity Better Than Anyone
If anyone knows adversity at the quarterback position, it’s Brady. What Brady said about Daniels has meaning because Brady experienced nearly all highs and lows imaginable at the quarterback position in his career. He was an ignored sixth-round draft pick, faced doubts and scrutiny early on, and dealt with devastating injuries, notably the torn ACL that erased his 2008 season. Based on his experience, Brady is one of the people who knows best that a talented young quarterback like Daniels is still going to feel pressure, and adversity, and hit the rough patches.
Growing Into Leadership Roles
Later in the interview, what Brady said about Daniels focused more on the leadership side of playing quarterback and the pressure young NFL stars face when they become the face of an organization almost overnight.
“And that’s what Jayden Daniels, that’s what Caleb Williams is going to face, or Drake Maye is going to face, or Fernando Mendoza is going to face. All guys who are in these leadership roles need to learn how to do their job well, and once that happens, you help other people do theirs better, too. That’s the mark of a great quarterback and a great leader. You take on the responsibilities of a lot of people, and those responsibilities are there every day, and you can’t shy away from them. You have to really embrace them. He loves the game.”
Expectations of Young Quarterbacks in the NFL
What Brady said about Daniels probably stands out even more because of how quickly expectations have exploded around young quarterbacks in today’s NFL. There aren’t the slow, quiet three to four years anymore to marinate behind veteran leadership with nobody paying attention. A quarterback who shows any early promise is immediately thrust into the spotlight. Whether it’s fair or not, teams, fanbases, and the national media at large seem to think they are ready to become leaders, mouthpieces, and playoff-caliber quarterbacks all at the same time.
Leadership Both On and Off the Field
At the same time, what Brady said about Daniels also reflects the reality that leadership at quarterback goes well beyond throwing touchdowns on Sundays. Brady had built a career on preparation, accountability, and making the people around him better, which was what he was explaining in this interview. The mental game for young QBs like Daniels could be even more important than the physical skill set that got them selected in the draft.
