Sunderland are already being linked with several summer moves as interest grows in key players this summer
Sunderland’s summer transfer window is already shaping up to be a fascinating one, with the Black Cats expected to be busy as they look to build on an impressive first season back in the Premier League.
Régis Le Bris’ side have comfortably secured their top-flight status, but Sunderland know the second season can often bring a different type of challenge. That makes the upcoming window hugely important, with decisions needed on loan players, potential incomings and the future of key first-team figures attracting outside interest.
Here is a round-up of some of the latest Sunderland-related transfer claims:
Lutsharel Geertruida linked with Everton and Liverpool
Lutsharel Geertruida is reportedly likely to remain on Liverpool’s radar this summer as he prepares to return to RB Leipzig.
The Netherlands international has spent the season on loan at Sunderland, but reports have suggested that the Black Cats are not expected to make that move permanent. That would see Geertruida return to Germany, though his long-term future at Leipzig also appears uncertain.
Liverpool have been credited with interest in Geertruida before, with Arne Slot having worked with the defender during their time together at Feyenoord. Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen has now suggested that link could still be relevant, particularly because of Geertruida’s versatility.
Everton are also reportedly monitoring Geertruida ahead of a possible summer move. David Moyes is said to be keen to strengthen that area of his squad, with Everton scouts said to have watched Geertruida during his loan spell at Sunderland.
The Black Cats are not expected to make the defender’s move from RB Leipzig permanent, leaving his future open ahead of the summer window. Leipzig are believed to want more than £20million for Geertruida, with Everton potentially prepared to test that valuation or make an offer close to that figure.
Frank Anguissa price tag emerges
Sunderland have also been linked once again with Napoli midfielder Frank Anguissa. The 30-year-old is a familiar name to English football supporters after his previous spell with Fulham, but he has taken his game to another level since joining Napoli. Reports in Italy have suggested that Napoli could be open to doing business this summer, though any deal would not come cheaply.
According to Areanapoli, Napoli do not yet have an official valuation in place for Anguissa, but it is suggested that the Serie A club would be unlikely to let him leave for less than €20million (roughly £17.4million). Sunderland were credited with interest in the Cameroon international during the winter window and are now being linked with a possible summer move. A midfielder of Anguissa’s profile would certainly represent a high-impact signing, though his age and likely cost would make it a significant call for the club. Anguissa is set to turn 31 later this year,
Chelsea and Liverpool linked with Robin Roefs
Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs is reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea and Liverpool after an outstanding first season in English football.
The Sun has claimed that both clubs are monitoring the 23-year-old, who joined Sunderland from NEC Nijmegen last summer in a deal worth an initial £9million. Roefs has made a major impression during his debut Premier League campaign, and his value is now said to have increased significantly, with the report suggesting Sunderland would want around £50million.
