England manager Thomas Tuchel was in attendance to watch Chelsea duo Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill play in Saturday’s FA Cup final.
Unfortunately for Palmer and Colwill, their day out at Wembley ended in defeat, with Manchester City winning 1-0.
As a former Chelsea manager, Tuchel would have wanted the Blues to win. However, the German was not there for that. He was there to watch the likes of Palmer and Colwill ahead of selecting his England squad for the World Cup.
And after that game, a couple of things should have become clear to the Champions League-winning coach.
Imagine if we signed Antoine Semenyo! 😩

Thomas Tuchel should leave Chelsea’s Cole Palmer at home
If Tuchel ends up taking Palmer to the World Cup, it cannot be for anything that he has done this season.
We Chelsea fans adore Palmer, but even his biggest supporter has to admit that the attacking midfielder is not doing enough in attack right now.
Against City, Palmer did not even register a single shot. If England were light in the No.10 position, this would not even be a debate. But they have Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Morgan Rogers and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Not all of them can go to the World Cup, and Palmer has not been better than any of those names, so can Tuchel really include him in his final squad?
The 24-year-old should be left at home, and that could actually benefit him after playing so much football since he moved to Chelsea in 2023.
Thomas Tuchel should take Levi Colwill to World Cup
Colwill is a completely different story. He has barely played for Chelsea this season because of his ACL injury, but he is fit again and impressing.
Colwill was the Blues’ best player in their last Premier League game, a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, and put in another top performance against City.
The centre-back position for England is not the same as the No.10 one. Tuchel does not have as many quality options there, especially on the left side.
That is why, at this point, taking Colwill is a no-brainer. He has been included in the Three Lions’ preliminary squad, so it is not impossible.
