Packers named best fit for 6-foot-6 free agent from AFC playoff team

Last season, the Green Bay Packers barely snuck into the playoffs.

They'd like to be a bit more convincing about things in the 2026 NFL season, and A.J. Epenesa could help that cause.

To the unfamiliar Packers fans: Epenesa is a free agent edge rusher who has spent his first six NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

He was a second-round pick out of Iowa, and he nearly signed with the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason until a physical fell through.

Now, he's still looking for a home, and assuming he's healthy, the Packers could make sense for Epenesa.

ESPN's Matt Bowen, in a new article on Monday, called Green Bay the best fit out there for Epenesa to land with.

"The Packers lost rotational edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare to the Jets in free agency, so the team could add his replacement in Epenesa," Bowen writes. "He's a long, powerful mover who can set the edge with his 6-foot-6, 260-pound frame. He can also create disruptive plays under new coordinator Jonathan Gannon, as he recorded 24.5 sacks and four interceptions in six seasons with the Bills."

The Packers' pass rush is led by Micah Parsons, but they could certainly use more talent in that front seven to help disrupt quarterbacks.

Epenesa never quite felt like he reached his full potential in Buffalo, but he was also reliable enough that he didn't feel like a bust.

Maybe in a new home, he could find that bit of extra gear that pushes him to a new level.

Available this late in free agency, Epenesa is certainly a player worth targeting for the Packers, because he could be helpful with not a lot of risk.
