Everton could be set to have an opportunity to sign Artem Dovbyk, as Roma look set to part ways with the striker.
The Ukraine international returned to action at the weekend against Lazio. It was his first appearance since the first week of January, as he missed over five months due to a thigh injury.
While he didn’t score, he did hit the post once and did enough to make his mark in the match. Roma ran out 2-0 winners and went back into a Champions League spot.
This came days after Everton were mentioned as a convenient destination for the forward.Sport Witness covered how common ownership can help, with the idea of a move to the Toffees still alive for Dovbyk.
Dovbyk set for last game
SoloLaRoma report that despite his cameo on Sunday, Dovbyk will leave Roma in the summer. Gian Piero Gasperini has never appeared to be a fan, which led tolinks with Newcastle United last year.
It is believed the Ukraine international will take to the pitch for the last time in Roma colours next weekend. The Giallorossi have a chance at sealing a return to the Champions League when they take on Hellas Verona. Dovbyk should feature but that will be the last he plays for the Rome side.
This presents an opportunity for Everton, who need to make a ‘convincing offer’ to agree a deal. Roma already have plans to use money from his sale, making him a key candidate to leave in the summer.
Everton signing him before the end of June would help Roma with their UEFA FFP battle.
Roma’s attacking problems have already been solved by the arrival of Donyell Malen. This makes Dovbyk a back-up who isn’t needed at the club anymore.
Our take: Deal should be cheap
Roma paid a base fee of €30.5m for the striker in 2024, as he signed a five-year deal. As a result, Dovbyk weighs less than €20m on the Giallorossi’s accounts.
This suggests Everton could get a deal done for a bit over €20m.
Beto has found form for the Toffees in recent weeks, it remains to be seen if he has a future on Merseyside or not. Dovbyk can act as an efficient replacement and may also prove to be an upgrade if he settles well. He has very impressive for Girona and even during struggles in Rome, has scored 20 times accross all competitions.
