The Miami Dolphins surprised the NFL world when they selected offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2026 draft. But the Dolphins believe Proctor will mold into a player Miami builds the franchise around.
One of the reasons Proctor wasn't rated higher on analysts' draft boards was his weight issues at Alabama. But the Dolphins did their due diligence in that regard. Proctor acknowledged his weight gain and committed to getting it under control. That was enough for Miami to believe in the lineman as a foundational piece, via Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
“Proctor went to Miami on a 30 visit and acknowledged and took responsibility for what happened—and promised he wasn’t going back to that weight,” Breer wrote. “Which bolstered Miami’s feeling that it was a one-time problem, and Proctor was the kind of guy who’d respond when challenged.”

Now, Proctor is expected to play left guard for the Dolphins. Miami allowed 38 sacks in 2025, more than 15 other teams. Their newest first-round pick will help lay the ground work for the Dolphins' offensive line of the future.
Proctor appeared in 40 games over his three years in Alabama. He ended his time with the Crimson Tide as a Consensus All-American and the Jacobs Blocking Trophy co-winner. Proctor's 85.4 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2025 ranked ninth/632 tackles.
While he'll be kicking inside to begin his NFL career, the Dolphins are expecting Proctor to be just as successful.
