La Liga giants Real Madrid are set to bid farewell to defensive stalwart Dani Carvajal over the weeks ahead.

This comes amid official confirmation that the club have decided against offering the veteran full-back an extension to his expiring contract terms.

As per a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms on Monday:

‘Real Madrid C.F. and our captain Dani Carvajal have agreed to bring an end to a wonderful chapter as a player of our club at the conclusion of the current season.

‘Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and affection to one of the greatest legends of our club and world football.’

Carvajal’s Bernabéu chapter will come to an end this coming weekend, in a La Liga meeting with Athletic Club.

The stopper, now 34, lost his starting status in Spain’s capital to summer signing Trent Alexander-Arnold over recent months, which, added to a string of fitness problems, culminated in the decision for the parties to go their separate ways this summer.

Carvajal will depart with a near-record-breaking 26 titles to his name as a Real Madrid player.
