“Not There Yet”: New Orleans Saints on Contract Talks With 2nd-Team All-Pro

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave had a strong fourth season, setting career highs in receiving and earning Second-Team All-Pro honors. Olave hauled in 100 receptions on 156 targets for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns in 16 games. He missed the regular-season finale due to blood clots in his lungs.

Olave enters the final year of his deal and is scheduled to earn a fully guaranteed $15.493 million salary. The Saints have expressed interest in securing him to a long-term deal this offseason, but no deal has been made.

During Monday’s press conference, Mickey Loomis provided an update on ongoing contract negotiations with Chris Olave, as reported by Katherine Terrell of ESPN. The general manager said that although both sides would love to reach a deal sooner rather than later, they are not there yet in the negotiations. Loomis added that talks with Olave have been positive and that he has been in the building a lot this offseason.

Olave’s concussion history and longevity concerns, guaranteed money, and the recent rise in market value for wide receivers are the three main factors hindering a long-term deal.
