Possible Alvin Kamara landing spots as Saints fail to commit to RB

The future of running back Alvin Kamara with the New Orleans Saints remains in limbo ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

Questions about his future in The Big Easy arose after New Orleans unloaded a bunch of money on fellow back Travis Etienne in free agency.

Since then, the Saints have failed to commit to Kamara being on the roster in 2026, and that continued on Monday when general manager Mickey Loomis addressed the media.

“We’re just trying to see how he’s gonna fit on our roster,” Loomis said, per Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “Obviously there’s a resource management element. We’ll get to that over the next week or two.”

To his credit, Kamara has taken the signing of Etienne in stride and has given no indication he wants out of New Orleans despite him being set to take on a smaller role.

“I think a lot of people be thinking there’s a beef or something when moves like this happen,” Kamara said earlier this month. “It’s like, shoot, I couldn’t be happier. One, my boy got paid, and two, ain’t nothing but some help in the backfield. That’s the name of the game. One person can’t do it by themselves. I’m cool with it.”

If the Saints do decide to part ways with Kamara, there are three teams that immediately come to mind as possible suitors.

Denver Broncos

Kamara is intimately familiar with Broncos head coach Sean Payton, who he played for earlier in his NFL career.

Denver is returning its one-two punch from last season in J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey, but the former has had issues staying healthy throughout his career and Harvey remains unproven.

Adding Kamara to the mix would shore things up in Denver ahead of a season in which the team has Super Bowl aspirations.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks let last year’s starter and Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker, leave in free agency to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In response, the Seahawks signed career backup Emanuel Wilson and drafted Jadarian Price in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft to add to a room that also includes Zach Charbonnet and George Holani.

The problem with that group is all four players are question marks.

Price and Holani are unproven, Wilson has never been more than a backup and Charbonnet is recovering from a torn ACL and may not even be ready by Week 1.

Adding Kamara would give the Seahawks the proven starter they need.

Jacksonville Jaguars

With Etienne leaving for the Saints in free agency, the Jaguars don’t have a sure starter at running back.

Chris Rodriguez will compete with Bhayshul Tuten for the starting job, but neither player has even come close to proving they can be effective in that kind of role in the NFL.

Tuten toted the rock just 83 times in his rookie season while playing behind Etienne, and Rodriguez’s career high in carries is 112, which he hit in 2025.

The Jags need some experience in their backfield and Kamara would offer that in spades.

Washington Commanders

The Commanders were widely expected to make some kind of splash at running back this offseason after most of their 2025 group hit free agency.

However, Washington’s group remains uninspiring, with unproven second-year back Jacory Croskey-Merritt at the head of a depth chart that also includes veterans Rachaad White and Jerome Ford, and sixth-round NFL draft pick Kaytron Allen.

If the Commanders want to help Jayden Daniels out, they’ll add more to that room. Kamara would be a strong option for Washington.
