The NFL schedule for the 2026 season is officially out, and fans are busy perusing over their teams' schedules for the upcoming season. As always, some teams will feel like they got the short end of the stick while others will be thrilled with the layout of their campaign.
The Panthers ended up with one of the more generous slates of the year, with no international games and no more than two weeks in a row away from home at any point. On top of that. Carolina gets its usual six games against the relatively weak NFC South along with an early-season game against the Browns to get its feet under it.
One point of contention with Carolina's schedule is the bye week. The Panthers have a Week 5 bye, the earliest week any team can get a week off. On Monday, during Carolina's first day of OTAs, Canales explained the benefits of having an early bye, via Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340.
“Canales says the early bye gives the Panthers a quick chance to collect valuable data and make adjustments early,” quick reported on X, formerly Twitter.

A lot of teams would prefer later bye weeks to get some extra rest before the playoffs, when the team is already worn down and feeling some fatigue. However, Canales offers some extra perspective that could be good for a younger team that is still building chemistry together.
The Panthers' bye comes at the end of a manageable stretch for Carolina to begin the season. They will open up with a tough game against the Bears before going on the road to play the Falcons and Browns. They then return home to take on the Detroit Lions before the week off.
Carolina will then have two weeks to get ready for what will be a very difficult road test against the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 18, and then it will be into the heart of the season. It will be interesting to see if the Panthers take a step forward after that bye, or if they begin to fatigue later in the season as a result of the schedule.
