The New York Jets had a lot go wrong during the 2025 NFL season. From the injuries, poor quarterback play from Justin Fields and Brady Cook, their leading receiver last catching a pass in the first week of October, not much went right.
But one of the worst statistics from a brutal season was the Jets becoming the first team in NFL history to go a full season without securing one interception. They had 17 games and couldn't get one pick.
Fans will be eagerly awaiting the Jets to snap this streak in 2026. Unfortunately for Jets fans, as ESPN's Rich Cimini predicted, they might have to wait until Week 5 to see their defense get its first interception.
"The Jets' historic interception drought -- 17 straight games without a pick -- will last until Week 5 against the Browns' Deshaun Watson (or Shedeur Sanders)," Cimini predicts.
This prediction from Cimini is, unfortunately, a very real possibility for Jets fans. Aaron Glenn's defense might not get their first interception until Week 5, thanks to its 2026 schedule's opening games.
Jets' first interception of Aaron Glenn era might wait until Week 5
A Week 5 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, whether it's Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, or even Dillon Gabriel, would be a great time for an interception. All three quarterbacks are prone to turnovers.
But why will the Jets likely have to wait until Week 5 to see their defense get the first pick of the 2026 season, let alone of the Aaron Glenn era?

In Week 1, the Jets face Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans. Week 2 is a game against the Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love, followed in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions and Jared Goff. Lastly, they face the Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams in Week 4.
Those quarterbacks, as Cimini highlighted, "In fact, they ranked in the top seven in lowest interception percentage in 2025."
Barring an uncharacteristic week from one of these quarterbacks, the Jets, even with their revamped defense, might have to wait until Week 5 when the Browns QBs come to town for their first interception of the year.

The Jets have gone 17 consecutive games without an interception, the longest streak over any period of games in NFL history. Each week they go without a pick, they'll extend their record.
If the Jets cannot get a pick before Week 5, as Cimini predicts, that will mean Glenn's defense doesn't secure its first interception since he became the head coach until the 22nd game of his tenure.
The Jets' interception drought might last until Week 5 of the 2026 season thanks to a tough opening stretch of the schedule against Ward, Love, Goff, and Williams.
