Minnesota Vikings joint practice news: The NFL has worked to shorten the length of its preseason for years now. They successfully accomplished that by decreasing the exhibition slate to just three games, in exchange for a 17th regular season game.
Meanwhile, the union has been trying to limit offseason workouts including how often players can physically come in contact with each other and/or coaches while on an official team practice field.
As a result, workouts throughout the summer, from OTAs through training camp, have been dialed back. One other new phenomenon we’ve seen more and more have been joint practices between preseason opponents, in the days leading up to actual exhibition games played that weekend.
For the Minnesota Vikings, we’ve seen them target one or two preseason matchups for joint practices, since Kevin O’Connell took over as head coach. Last year, they hosted Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots.
Minnesota Vikings announce joint practices with Baltimore Ravens
This year, the team announced Monday, it will be the Baltimore Ravens coming to TCO Performance Center the week of their Week 2 preseason game for a couple days of joint work they will use to ramp up players who do not play preseason games.

The Minnesota Vikings will host the Baltimore Ravens for two days of scheduled joint practices during 2026 Training Camp, the teams announced Monday.
Details for timing and ticketing will be announced later, but the joint practices are planned for Wednesday, Aug. 19 and Thursday, Aug. 20.
The teams will conclude their week of work on Saturday, Aug. 22 when Minnesota hosts Baltimore for a noon (CT) kickoff at U.S. Bank Stadium in the second preseason game for both teams.

Jesse Minter was hired this offseason to replace fired head coach John Harbaugh, who had held the position for 18 years prior. The elder Harbaugh is now the head coach of the New York Giants.
Meanwhile, Kevin O’Connell will have chosen a new boss by then, a future general manager who the head coach will play a large part in choosing, per reports.
All eyes throughout training camp will be on the quarterback competition, which the MN Vikings are adamant is real. Whoever wins the job (presumably Kyler Murray) could very well be who O’Connell and the Vikings commit to long-term next offseason.
Other training camp storylines to follow
Beyond the upcoming “QB competition”, there’s a lot the Minnesota Vikings still have to figure out before and during camp, come July
Caleb Banks, Minnesota’s first round draft pick, is one of a handful of new interior defensive lineman trying to replace departed Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen. He’s undergone two foot surgeries this offseason, though, and there are questions over whether or not the athletic freak will be ready this summer.

Similar questions are present for left tackle Christian Darrisaw, who the Vikings seem to have lingering concerns over. After suffering a knee injury in 2024, there’s still no guarantee he will be back to his old All-Pro self next season. How he looks and how often he participates this summer will tell us a lot.
Harrison Smith’s return is still up in the air, so it’s very possible we’ll have a TON of questions in the secondary, after the Vikings failed to find any legitimate replacement for The Hitman.
Jakobe Thomas, their third round pick, is the latest in a line of middle-late round picks Minnesota will try to hit on, but picks that late are lottery tickets, at best.
