Manchester United are already turning their focus towards reshaping the squad in preparation for the summer. United clinched third spot in the Premier League and will compete in the Champions League next season.
Michael Carrick has played a pivotal role in revitalising the team's performances during his tenure in charge. As the 44-year-old moves closer to securing the United manager's job permanently, he will recognise that several crucial decisions await in the transfer market.
United loanee Marcus Rashford has remained in the spotlight throughout his spell away from Old Trafford. The forward has made no secret of his ambition to remain with La Liga champions Barcelona but continues to face uncertainty over a permanent move to the Camp Nou.
In other news, experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton is nearing a fresh contract, which would strengthen the club's Champions League squad. Here, MEN Sport examines some of the major stories concerning the Reds.
Marcus Rashford's fresh transfer decision
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims that Rashford has already reached an agreement in principle on a three-year contract with Barcelona but the conditions must be revised to finalise a permanent transfer. The England international's new salary is said to be 40 per cent less than his earnings at United.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Rashford sees renegotiating the three-year deal as his "only option" to remain at Barcelona. It is claimed that extending his Barcelona deal to five years would be financially advantageous for the La Liga winners, as it would enable the Catalan outfit to spread the transfer fee over a longer period.
Barcelona hold an option to make Rashford's spell permanent for approximately £26million. The 28-year-old has registered eight goals and nine assists in 31 La Liga appearances, helping Hansi Flick's team clinch the league title this season.
Yet the two clubs remain in negotiations over the previously agreed sum. The Catalan side are reluctant to meet the £26m buy clause, while United have no desire to reduce the asking price.

Man United contract agreement
Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is poised to pen a one-year extension at United. The 40-year-old has acted as the club's third-choice keeper since 2021, with his most recent competitive outing coming in February 2023.
Heaton started his career in United's youth system and enjoyed productive stints at other clubs before returning to his boyhood side. The former England international has also played a mentoring role for United's new number one Senne Lammens this season.
The ex-Burnley man's decision to extend his time at Old Trafford will prove a boost to United's Champions League squad, given his status as a homegrown player. UEFA regulations require every club to include a quota of eight association-trained players, with at least four of those needing to be homegrown, in order to submit a full 25-man squad list.
