Everton have reached out to the representatives of Celta Vigo star Oscar Mingueza, as the Friedkin Group look to finally land the Toffees a new right-back.
Seamus Coleman has played his last home game for the Blues, as his controversial Hill Dickinson farewell was seen following the damaging 3-1 defeat to Sunderland.
The long-serving club captain has been a regular bench option for David Moyes, but his exit now means that the need for a new right-back is greater than ever.
The Toffees were linked with multiple targets in the winter window, from the likes of Femi Seriki to Bologna’s Emil Holm, but failed to give Moyes what he wanted.
Now, Everton have made contact with Mingueza, as the Friedkin Group want to fill this important position for free.

Everton opting for the cheap route with Oscar Mingueza
Everton’s search for a new right-back was ramped up following the confirmed exit of Coleman, but things could become clear on who they will sign fairly soon.
According to TEAMtalk’s Everton transfer correspondent, Harry Watkinson, the Toffees have spoken to representatives of Mingueza, who is set to be available for a free transfer this summer.

Mingueza’s La Liga stats 25-26
You’d think that considering the need for a right-back has been there all season, the Friedkin Group would be willing to splash the cash to make up for what fans have had to put up with this term.
Jake O’Brien has been forced out on the right, an unnatural position, and really, Coleman’s exit should prompt Everton to sign two new players in that role.
That probably won’t happen, though.

It could be a bit of deja vu for the Toffees as well, with Mingueza said to be centre-back cover, which may question the La Liga star’s ability actually to play as an attacking force down the right.
There is evidence that the 27-year-old has played in left and right midfield, but playing in the Premier League is a whole different ball game than Spanish football, where the tempo is much slower.
Everton face competition for Mingueza
It is suggested that Mingueza may just be one of a couple options for the Friedkin Group this summer, but it would be no surprise to see them go all in for a star who will be leaving his side for free.
The Toffees will most likely face competition for the Barcelona academy graduate’s signature, with Aston Villa reported to be long-term admirers, and Arsenal and Manchester City loosely linked with interest.
It’s funny how Mingueza, being a possible free transfer, “appeals” to the Friedkin Group, and major questions would be raised if he is signed and then struggles in England.
Time will tell, however, as it’s a position that needs to be thought about carefully, not something that is papered over with lazy scouting.
