Atalanta’s Marco Palestra can be an option for Manchester City ahead of the summer transfer window.
The right-back came through the ranks of the Serie A side’s youth system and made his first team debut in 2023. He played 16 matches before going out on loan to Cagliari in August 2025.
Palestra played 3,058 minutes from 36 matches, managing a goal and four assists this season. His form for Cagliari also saw him make his debut for Italy in March.
On April 15th, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that Manchester City and Arsenal are competing to sign him in the summer.
Inter Milan have also shown interest in the 21-year-old.
Manchester City move conditional
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio covers a report on the Italian champions’ budget and targets for the upcoming window.
He mentions Manchester City when discussing the latest on the Nerazzurri’s interest in Palestra.
Marco Palestra is Inter Milan’s ‘undeclared dream’ right-back target. However, a €40m fee won’t be enough to convince Atalanta, who are waiting to find out what Manchester City plan to do.
Pep Guardiola is in charge at the Etihad but the latest reports from the UK and Spain state he’ll leave after this season. Enzo Maresca has been without a job since leaving Chelsea at the start of this year and is in the running to replace him.
If the Italian becomes Guardiola’s successor, then Manchester City could make a move for his compatriot. That’s because the Premier League side are looking for a player with similar qualities to that of Palestra.
If Manchester City make advances, his price could rise to €50-60m, and in that case, the defender will be out of Inter Milan’s reach. In short, the Citizens can spoil the San Siro club’s dream signing.
Manchester City may need new right-back
Pep Gaurdiola has Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis as the two right-backs at his disposal. The latter has been limited to 312 minutes from 10 league matches and could move elsewhere.
Marco Palestra can certainly be an option as there’s belief he fits what they are looking for. The Italian has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €30m.
