Former Chelsea player is set to join Enzo Maresca at Manchester City

Enzo Maresca’s backroom team at Manchester City is taking clear shape, with a former Blues goalkeeper expected to return to the club in a key coaching role.

Enzo Maresca ended under a cloud of frustration at Chelsea, with the Italian manager quickly realising that the club’s chaotic internal structure left him with little long-term security. Despite guiding the team through a heavy transition, the volatile environment at Stamford Bridge prompted a swift departure.

Rather than rushing immediately into another project, Maresca chose to bide his time, waiting patiently for the perfect opportunity.

That calculated patience has paid off, with Maresca now set to take over as the new Manchester City manager. The Premier League champions viewed him as the ideal successor to continue in Pep Guardiola’s honour, as he’s set to depart at the end of the season.

Enzo Maresca adds Willy Caballero to his staff at Man City

Willy Cabalerro is expected to return to Manchester City as a key part of Maresca’s backroom team when he takes charge this summer, according to Alex Crook.

Willy Caballero built a highly respected reputation at Stamford Bridge across both his playing and coaching careers. Arriving as a reliable backup goalkeeper, his defining moment came during the 2018 FA Cup triumph, alongside being an experienced squad presence during the 2019 Europa League and 2021 Champions League victories.

After retirement, he returned to the club as a key assistant coach under Enzo Maresca, playing an important role, along with his deep understanding of the dressing room, making him a popular figure.

How Xabi Alonso’s backroom staff looks at Chelsea

Xabi Alonso is bringing his highly trusted Spanish inner circle to Stamford Bridge.

Longtime assistant Sebastian Parrilla heads the incoming team, alongside assistant Alberto Encinas, video analyst Benat Labaien, and fitness expert Ismael Camenforte Lopez.

To blend this setup with internal club continuity, Chelsea’s current interim boss, Calum McFarlane, will remain in the first-team coaching fold. Additionally, existing staff members Ben Roberts and set-piece specialist Bernardo Cueva are staying on.
