Four things we learnt from Arsenal's 1-0 win over Burnley

Arsenal beat the already relegated Burnley1-0 after a first half goal from Kai Havertz.

The German headed home from a Bukayo Saka corner in the 37th minute to put the Gunners in front.

Many may have then expected that the league leaders would add to their lead throughout the second half.

That was not the case though. Whilst the visitors did not cause too many problems for Mikel Arteta's side there were a few nervy moments with striker Zian Flemming looking like he could possibly make a difference if the right chance fell for him.

Havertz could have seen a red card for a challenge on Lesley Ugochukwu but the VAR decided that a yellow card was sufficient.

As it was, Arsenal held on and it could be a very important result as they have just one game to go.

Here are four takeaways from the match.

Set-pieces again making the difference

Arsenal have regularly scored from set-pieces this season and that proved to be the difference maker in this match too.

It was typical that such an important goal came from a corner kick.

The corner was delivered by Saka and headed home by Havertz. It was Saka's 50th Premier League assist for the club.

The England international has missed much of the season with injury but he, along with many of his team-mates, has hit top form at the vital time.

Arteta's side have received some criticism for their reliance on set-pieces but it is clearly a strength of his side and they have used the dead ball situations to their advantage.

Arsenal looking solid at the back again

The Gunners have won their last three games in all competitions with a score of 1-0. This demonstrates their solidity at the back.

Once they get ahead, they rarely lose and are certainly capable of keeping a clean sheet and restricting the opposition.

In their last ten games in all competitions they have kept seven clean sheets.

It is often said that a solid backline is the sign of a winning team. Whilst they may not have scored as many goals as their title rivals Manchester City, the side from north London have let in the fewest goals in the league.

Burnley may not have caused them too much to worry about and it was a game that Arteta's side were expected to win but they still had to get the job done.

He started the match with an attacking intent with Eberechi Eze playing in the midfield alongside Martin Odegaard. Then, to help his side see out the game Myles Lewis-Skelly and Martin Zubimendi came on to replace those two players.

Closer than they may have wanted

The result is what matters and it appears unlikely that the title will now come down to goals scored but Arsenal may have wanted more than the one goal against Burnley.

Had they conceded a late equaliser, as happened away at Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the season, then it would have been heartbreak around the Emirates Stadium and a real missed opportunity.

As it was, a couple of weeks ago rivals Manchester City also could only put one goal past the Clarets too. Therefore, it is not a disaster.

Arteta's side did endure a more difficult night than many may have anticipated though.

That proves that there are no easy games in the Premier League and particularly when a side is going for their first league title in 22 years, it is about getting it over the line.

What does it mean for the title race?

It is advantage to Arsenal as they only have a trip to Crystal Palace to come on the final day of the season.

Pep Guardiola and City have two games remaining but know that they must win at Bournemouth to keep their hopes alive.

It will not be easy for City as the Cherries are on a 16 game unbeaten run in the Premier League, along with City's own 14 game unbeaten run.

City will have reasons to be optimistic and a belief that they can take the fight to the last day, after their win in the FA Cup final at the weekend.

However, Arsenal know what they have to do and they are also in great form.

Since their 2-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium in mid April, where many believed the momentum in the title race had swung the way of City, Arsenal have won all of their Premier League games without conceding.

One thing that is certain is that an exciting title race is soon to reach its end.
