Arsenal suffer major setback as £100m transfer hijack 'completed', Arteta will be gutted [view]

Arsenal have been dealt a major transfer blow ahead of the summer, after it was claimed that one of their top targets has already completed a move elsewhere.

The Gunners are on the verge of a historic double of the Premier League and Champions League trophies following their 1-0 win over Burnley on Monday night, with Kai Havertz's goal the difference between the sides after he started ahead of Viktor Gyokeres in attack.

But Mikel Arteta is still looking to strengthen his forward line for next season, with Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez a long-term target who could be on the move during the upcoming summer window.

Alvarez, who has been described as 'extraordinary', has been heavily linked with a move to north London in recent seasons, with the club even having a mega nine-figure bid rejected in the past.

There had been suggestions that the Gooners could return with another move this summer, but it has now emerged that their Champions League final opponents Paris Saint-Germain are ready to hijack the deal and step in themselves.

Now, relayed by TEAMtalk, it has been claimed that a deal to see him move to France could be even closer than first though.

Spanish analyst Jose Antonio Martin Otin told Cadena COPE: “He’s a player who’s already been transferred to PSG.”

Journalist Roberto Gomez has now also told Radio Marca that Alvarez wants to join PSG.

Gomez said, as relayed by Sport: “We still have to wait and see what happens with Julián Alvarez, but Barcelona doesn’t have the money to sign him. The team the player wants is PSG.”

Arsenal Must Find New Alternative

Julian Alvarez

Alvarez has been a long-term target at the Emirates Stadium, and on paper at least, he looks like the ideal candidate to slot into Arteta's team and improve their attacking lineup.

But with PSG in the mix, and Enrique's side creating history with the way they play, they are a more appealing team at this moment, and they have the finances to compete with everyone.

Now Arsenal will have to look toward the market once more to improve their attack, because Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli are likely to be sold, and neither Gyokeres or Havertz have proven to be reliable enough when it comes to finding the back of the net, despite the club's success this season.
