One European club seems particularly interested
Ethan Nwaneri has not had the simplest of campaigns, given that his 2025/26 season has so far seen him struggling for minutes at Arsenal, and his loan spell at Marseille has not been as successful as expected.
, and has only two goals and one assist in nine Ligue 1 appearances with the team.
He is not the only Hale End Academy graduate to have had problems this season, with Myles Lewis-Skelly also finding it hard to get into the team at points this campaign, but Lewis-Skelly has made huge strides in recent months thanks to his utilisation in defensive midfield.
All things considered, Nwaneri may need another move to get his career back on track, and one club from the European mainland is rumoured to be interested in the 19-year-old.

Borussia Dortmund may want to sign Ethan Nwaneri
Sky Sport Germany has revealed that one of the names on the transfer list of Borussia Dortmund is indeed Ethan Nwaneri, as the German club requires a new attacker at the end of the season, given that winger Julian Brandt will depart the team upon his contract expiry in Summer 2026.
Dortmund finished second place in the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, 16 points off of league champions Bayern Munich, and they will be looking to sustain that momentum heading into next year.
Nwaneri would most likely be deployed on the right-hand side of Dortmund’s attack, which is a position that the youngster has played in throughout his young career, although he has been utilised in central midfield by both Arsenal and Marseille too.
While it is currently unknown if Nwaneri is the most realistic candidate for die Borussen, rumours that he would link up with Dortmund emerged last summer, and it seems that he is still on their list of targets.
Could Nwaneri be set for a breakout season next year?
While it is true that the future of a player’s career is hard to predict, if Nwaneri is to join Dortmund, they have a good track record of developing English players.
Jadon Sancho went from an emerging player in the Manchester City youth ranks to a star at Dortmund, and despite struggles following his move back to England first with Manchester United, then with Aston Villa, Sancho was a star during his time in Germany.
Jude Bellingham is another player who joined Dortmund young—at the tender age of only 17—from Championship side Birmingham, and quickly became arguably the Westphalian club’s best player in his three seasons at the club before joining Real Madrid in 2023.
If Nwaneri can reach the levels of success that either Sancho or Bellingham had with Dortmund, ideally on a one- or two-year loan, he could come back to Arsenal as a much more complete player that is ready to fight for his place in the North London team.
