Why Mikel Arteta was nowhere to be seen during Arsenal's Premier League title celebrations

After 22 years of waiting and trying, Arsenal are finally champions of England once again. The Gunners were crowned on Tuesday night as Manchester City failed to beat Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Mikel Arteta's side did their job the night before, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against already relegated Burnley keeping the pressure on his old master Pep Guardiola to pick up maximum points against the Cherries. However, they failed to do so, with Erling Haaland's late equaliser not enough to take the title race to the final day.

Eli Junior Kroupi kicked off the Arsenal celebrations with an incredible strike to put Bournemouth in front, and the Frenchman will very popular in north London for a long time. City pushed but had to settle for a point as Guardiola prepares to leave without winning either of the last two Premier League titles on offer.

Where Was Mikel Arteta During Arsenal's Celebrations?

The entire Arsenal squad gathered at their Sobha training ground to watch the Man City game in anticipation of a result in their favour. The full-time whistle sparked wild scenes, with the likes of Declan Rice, Piero Hincapie and Gabriel Magalhaes at the forefront of celebrations.

Bukayo Saka and Myles Lewis-Skelly also made sure to put an end to the 'bottlers' label the Gunners have been carrying around in previous years. But where was the man who made it all possible?

Arteta was notably absent in all videos and pictures that emerged from the training complex on Tuesday night. That's because he wasn't present.

Instead, the Spanish tactician decided to watch the game from the comfort of his own home surrounded by family. He confirmed that was his plan following Monday night's win against Burnley.

"I think we are all supporters of Bournemouth because we know what it means," he said in his post-match press conference. "I thought the amount of hair that I have was never going to go away, but this job is going to test it to the limit.

"I don't long how long I'm going to watch it, but I will be there in front of the TV. I don't know how much I can watch. I planned to watch it with my family but I don't know for how long."

Pep Guardiola Congratulates Arsenal and Arteta

Guardiola, who completed a domestic double by lifting the FA Cup and EFL Cup this season, was gracious in defeat as he sent his congratulations to his old assistant manager. Speaking after City's draw at Bournemouth, the Catalan-born boss said:

"On behalf of Man City we congratulate Mikel, the staff, players, fans and Arsenal for this Premier League. Next season we will be back."

It looks increasingly unlikely that the 55-year-old will be back, as it's been reported that he will leave the Etihad after Sunday's final game of the season against Aston Villa. After 10 years and 20 trophies, he won't be able to bow out with one last Premier League crown as he would've wished.
