The world’s media descended on the south coast of England on Tuesday night, as something monumental was within touching distance for AFC Bournemouth. A single point would be enough to clinch qualification for European football next season.
Apparently, the Premier League title was on the line as well, with Manchester City needing three points to take the race to Arsenal to the final day of the season.

With both sides needing the points, it was always likely to be an exciting game, which it was, as AFC Bournemouth dominated Manchester City and deserved to take all three points.
The Cherries played with swagger. There were no nerves from the home side; despite what they could achieve, there were back heels, dribbles, lung-busting runs to get numbers forward.
Eli Junior Kroupi Jr., curling one into the top corner, gave AFC Bournemouth a thoroughly deserved lead heading into half-time. Another small piece of history written, becoming the highest-scoring teenager in Premier League history.
Dean Court was rocking throughout the first half, as flashbacks of the night against Bolton Wanderers in 2015 would have gone through the minds of many in attendance, the Cherries were on the brink of writing yet another extraordinary chapter in the club’s history.
As Manchester City pushed forward in the second half, it was the Cherries who continued to have the better chances, but the Dean Court faithful could only watch on as the ball would narrowly miss the post, or indeed rebound off it when David Brooks was put through one-on-one.
In the 90th minute, all sides of the ground were on their feet as Dean Court raised the decibel levels once again, but Manchester City found an equaliser. The supporters, however, remained in fine voice; it wasn’t about the win tonight, it was about getting the point for European qualification and that was secured.
Oh, and it meant that Arsenal, the side that the Cherries humbled just a few short weeks ago at the Emirates, were crowned champions for the first time in 22 years, you’re welcome.
Speaking to Sky Sports, AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola said…
“At the beginning of the season you didn’t imagine it. It has been so nice and we have a chance to fight for the Champions League in the last game and we really deserve this, especially for the game we played so well. We have not won the game but it does not matter.
“I’ve enjoyed it so much, how we played and the personality we showed. We had great chances to score the second one and we wanted to win the game but I’ve enjoyed it. Today has been a good reflection of the club. I’m very happy for the club, the players, the supporters and the staff. It’s the best way to finish with something you can touch I can’t ask for anything more…”
“…We have a special group of players. They are consistent and always there. Right now there is nothing about my future in my head, I just want to celebrate and push it. We have Europa League, next let’s maximise our options. Can we take the last Champions League spot?”

I couldn’t be prouder of my team tonight. Outstanding individual performances all over the pitch led to an outstanding team performance. Just a shame we didn’t finish them off, but what a great display of teamwork, effort and talent
And we’ve qualified for Europe
And we could still get into the Champions League
Wow
"Amazing night… we really deserved this"

That was actually a massive point.
It means that only Brighton can catch us as opposed to Brighton, Brentford and Chelsea if we had lost.
Of course, we totally deserved to win tonight, but once the dust settles, we will see that that one point was an extremely valuable one!
Right now, I am hitting the whisky hard to celebrate part one of the job being accomplished!

Very, very proud tonight, a night reminiscent of the Bolton game in terms of a significant milestone in our extraordinary journey.
Currently 17 unbeaten in the league; at least a top 7 finish, and probably 6th AND a place in Europe.
Well done, everyone at the club, what a season!!

Shame to concede right at the end there and made for a nervy minute or two, gutted Brooksy couldn’t put it to bed either with his gilt-edged chances, but once the dust has settled, you’ve got to say that was just a fantastic shift put in all over the pitch from the boys. This was a City side stocked full of internationals and oozing class, but we were the better team by some margin. Don’t think I’ve ever been so fraught and gobby in the stands, but God, we so wanted the points so badly, and to get one and qualify for Europe is just remarkable. I think sometime tomorrow I’ll actually realise it’s true, at the moment still difficult to believe. So many good performances out there tonight, but can I put a shout-out for Eva? Thought he was superb. Roll on Forest now- we’re not done yet, and next week we can become invincible for half a season!

When I wrote the preview of our game, I had Adrien Truffert up against our old player Semenyo as ones to watch as they pitted their wits against each other.
Truffert came out on top with an excellent performance, defending and attacking down the left flank. He won the battle against our old player, and Semenyo was substituted.
For City, I had Jeremy Doku, a player to watch, as in recent league games, I had seen him play and he was a real threat out on the left wing and scored two good goals. But Adam Smith had a really good game along with the rest of our defenders in containing the threat of their forwards, and Doku was another player subbed by City.
We saw another ‘class’ goal from Junior Kroupi, similar to ones that Doku had scored, and again, another record was broken. Truffert was the player with the assist.
Last night again was not about individuals, like most of our season, it was all about teamwork, and that team work under our manager and his staff has guaranteed AFCB European football next season. – To join the conversation, please click here.
