Laura Woods has fired back at a claim that Arsenal are the 'worst champions' in recent Premier League history. The Gunners were crowned champions on Tuesday after title rivals Manchester City dropped points at Bournemouth.

City needed a win in order to take the race down to the final day, but Pep Guardiola's side could only muster a 1-1 draw. Arsenal can now no longer be caught at the top of the table and will lift the trophy following their game at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Fans like TV presenter Woods have had to wait 22 years to see the Gunners win the Premier League title again, and she marked the achievement by posting on X. "Wow," she wrote. "Arsenal - Premier League Champions."

But not everyone is impressed with their triumph, with their style of play being compared to Wimbledon's 'Crazy Gang' of the 1980s and 1990s. Replying to Woods, a Chelsea supporter wrote: "Worst champions for a number of years. Just saying."

Woods said in response: "NO ONE CARES MATE," to which they followed up by pointing out: "You do enough to reply. Modern day Wimbledon."

Woods left the conversation there but later in the night re-shared celebratory posts from Arsenal fans. She also took to Instagram and posted a photo of her in an Arsenal shirt as a child.

"It's always been Arsenal," she added. Also in the post was a picture of her meeting Mikel Arteta.

Plenty of other high-profile fans joined in the celebrations on social media. Legendary manager Arsene Wenger posted on X: "You did it. Champions go on when others stop. This is your time. Now, go on and enjoy every moment."

Prime Minister and Arsenal fan Sir Keir Starmer added: "22 long years for the Arsenal. But finally, we're back where we belong. Champions!"

Ex-Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman wrote: "Premier League champions!!! What a moment!!! What a season!!!!!!!! EPIC!!!!!!!!!! Longest (22 years and) three minutes of MY LIFE…"

Piers Morgan also posted: "This is Arteta's moment. Yes, the squad's been amazing. Yes, the fans have been incredible. Yes, the club's owners stepped up big time last summer.

"But it was this man's vision, intensity, intelligence, courage and decisions that won us the League. Thankyou @m8arteta."
