Arsenal are preparing to reward Mikel Arteta with a lucrative new contract after guiding the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years.
Arteta delivered the long-awaited league crown after Arsenal were confirmed champions following Manchester City’s draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The Spaniard has now established himself as one of the leading managers in world football after transforming Arsenal from a struggling side into Premier League champions and Champions League finalists.
Discussions over extending Arteta’s current deal beyond next summer had been delayed while Arsenal focused on the title race, but talks are expected to accelerate again after the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain later this month.
Arsenal are understood to be ready to significantly increase Arteta’s salary following the club’s historic campaign.
The 44-year-old already earns around £10 million per year plus bonuses, but Arsenal’s hierarchy are now prepared to offer a package that would place him among the highest-paid managers in football.
Club chiefs view Arteta as the central figure behind Arsenal’s resurgence after years of inconsistency following Arsene Wenger’s departure.

Arsenal’s owners Stan and Josh Kroenke are also backing Arteta heavily ahead of the summer transfer window as the club prepare to strengthen again rather than stand still after winning the league.
New sporting director Andrea Berta has already been working closely with Arteta on recruitment plans, with Arsenal determined to build a squad capable of competing consistently for the biggest trophies.
A new forward remains one of the club’s priorities despite the success of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres this season.
Bournemouth teenager Eli Junior Kroupi is among the players admired by Arsenal after an impressive breakthrough campaign, while long-standing interest in Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez also remains.
Arsenal are additionally monitoring wide attacking options as they prepare for another demanding season across multiple competitions.
The club are also continuing to invest heavily in youth recruitment.
