Enzo Maresca’s agent Jorge Mendes has received enquiries from three clubs other than Man City since his departure from Chelsea, according to reports.

TalkSPORT claim that the Italian was approached by Real Madrid just weeks after being sacked by the Blues, with the La Liga giants needing a replacement for Xabi Alonso.

AC Milan also made an enquiry, which is somewhat surprising considering that they have subsequently retained the services of Max Allegri.

The most recent contact from anbother team came just last month, with Tottenham hoping to hire the Italian following the departure of Igor Tudor. They subsequently appointed Roberto De Zerbi instead.

Wny didn’t Maresca take any of these jobs?

Most would assume that the 46-year-old had already been promised the role of City head coach, having held talks with intermediaries late last year.

However, talkSPORT report that the Manchester club were not in a position to hand Maresca the job at the time, as they were not 100% sure that Pep Guardiola would be leaving.

It does appear as if the Italian was happy to wait and take a chance that the City job would come up.

What has Guardiola said about his future at Man City?

While every reliable media outlet has reported that the Catalan is set to leave Manchester after 10 years at the helm, the man himself has still not confirmed his departure.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday night – a result which ended City’s hopes of winning the title – Guardiola said:

“I could say I have one more year of contract, and with conversations I have had for many, many years, always from my experience, when you announce whatever you announce during the competition is a bad, bad result”

“Like you understand, the first person I have to talk to is my chairman because we decided when we finish the season, we will sit and we will talk. Simple as that. And after we will take the decision.”
