Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has paid tribute to Pep Guardiola in the Commons today, calling the Manchester City manager 'one of Manchester’s great heroes'.
The Labour leader gave the shout out to the Spanish native today, May 20, calling him “one of Manchester’s great heroes moving on after almost a decade”.
It comes after it was announced on Monday that Pep is set to leave City at the end of the season to bring to an end an incredible decade at the Etihad following speculation at various points in the last year that the City manager would depart this summer.
At Prime Minister’s Questions, Sir Keir told the Commons: “It would be remiss of me not to comment on one of Manchester’s great heroes moving on after almost a decade, so let me congratulate Pep Guardiola on all his success at Manchester City.”

The Prime Minister also said: “And if I could declare an interest, I’d also like to say congratulations to Arsenal Football Club on becoming the Premier League champions.”
Pep has been with the club for ten years and has amassed twenty trophies with them. It is understood that the manager has already agreed time to call time on his 10 years at the club despite Guardiola and City pointing to the fact that the manager's contract runs until 2027.
Pep Guardiola spoke for the first time since news broke that he will leave Manchester City this season ahead of the Premier League game at Bournemouth yesterday.
The City boss did his pre-match broadcast interview where Sky Sports told him that it would be 'unfair' to ask him about his future before the game so instead asked him if the stories had disrupted their preparations.
City also insist that Guardiola remains their manager and has a contract until 2027. And the manager said that the stories in the last 24 hours had 'zero' impact on the squad as they prepared for the game.
Starmer made the comments at his first Commons grilling since the resignation of his health secretary and the by-election candidacy of potential leadership challenger Andy Burnham placed further pressure on his premiership.
The Prime Minister will take questions from Kemi Badenoch and other MPs, while ex-cabinet minister Wes Streeting was also expected to make a resignation speech in the chamber on Wednesday.
