Manchester City have dominated English football for the past decade under Pep Guardiola. But the winds of change are blowing at the club. The Spanish tactician is set to leave this summer. And a few of their legends will head for the exit door alongside him. Chelsea could end up taking advantage of that.
Of course, Chelsea are bringing in a Spanish tactician of their own this summer. Xabi Alonso will be taking the reins at Stamford Bridge. He is the club’s first ‘manager’ since Jose Mourinho. And hopes are high that he will turn things around after four unsuccessful seasons under BlueCo ownership.
There has been a lot of talk about Chelsea signing Premier League-proven players this summer. Well, when it comes to that, it does not get better than those who have successfully played under Guardiola for close to a decade.
According to a report from Marca, Chelsea have already shown interest in Silva. Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid also want him.
Chelsea interest in Bernardo Silva confirmed
Many have suggested that Chelsea should consider a move for Silva this summer. He is available as a free agent. And when it comes to signing Premier League-proven players, it should be a bit of a no-brainer.
Even this season, Silva has been one of Manchester City’s better performers. He has started for Guardiola’s side on a regular basis. And we all know that does not happen if you are not a top player.
Players like Silva do not become available as free agents often. Chelsea need to take their chance this summer.
Why Bernardo Silva could be an excellent signing
It is very clear that Chelsea have tried to build a winning team around youngsters for the past four seasons now. But the time to rethink that strategy has come.
They need to add some experience and proven quality to their roster. Silva would represent exactly that, having won six Premier League titles, a Champions League and numerous other trophies during his stint at Man City.
It is not just quality that he will bring to the Chelsea roster but winning experience as well. Just look at how Man City managed that FA Cup final after going a goal up, not even allowing the Blues into their half for about the last 20 minutes.
That kind of experience could do wonders for this Chelsea roster. And at 31 years of age, he should have a decent bit of top level football left in the tank as well. In fact, it is a surprise that City are letting him leave as a free agent.
